Special Events

Children's ministry does not end on Sunday morning. There are many opportunities for children and their families to be a part of Westwood United Methodist Church.

Whether your children like sports, crafts, music or just having a good time, there is a special event for them! Learn about Jesus in a variety of exciting ways throughout the year.

Upward Basketball

Upward Basketball at WUMC is for Cincinnati boys and girls in 1st - 6th grades and features great benefits for players and parents... beginning with equal playing time and teams for everyone. Our format consists of a small devotion, skills development following practices and games.

Eggstravaganza

The weekend of Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm, children of all ages gather to prepare for Easter. Children enjoy an Easter egg hunt, pictures with the Easter bunny, crafts, snacks and a mission project. This family friendly event begins in the gym.

Vacation Bible School

After a high energy opening at Shake It Up Café, the chefs make their way to Kitchen a la King. Interactive Bible lessons reveal five secret ingredients for living as a follower of God and the chefs will learn Bible Bite memory verses that will boost their faith long after VBS. Kids age 3-12 can get cookin' at WUMC for the day or evening program. During the daytime VBS, the 5th & 6th graders will be part of the "God Squad" which will be doing mission projects throughout the week.

VBS Finale Party

Finish the week of Vacation Bible School by joining in a Celebration on Sunday, July 24th at the 9:30 am Worship Service and the 11 am Journey followed by a picnic in the gym at 12:15. Children have a chance to share some of the music learned during the week while enjoying a variety of family activities and treats!

Kids' Music Camp

In this week-long day camp, children enjoy learning about music, making crafts, playing games and rehearsing a Christian musical that they perform in church on Sunday morning. This camp is a great opportunity for kids 3-12 to learn about God, express themselves, make new friends, and have a great time! The camp will take place July 25-29, 2011 from 1-4pm.

Trunk or Treat

Children get the opportunity to "Trick or Treat" in a safe environment. People from WUMC park their cars and open their trunks full of candy and treats. While listening to the music, families collect their treats including some special treats for the parents and young children. This event has occured for the last serveral years during "Trick or Treating" eve, fOctober 31, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm.

Christmas Craft Fair

On the first Sunday in Advent, from 2 to 4 pm, children gather to prepare for Christmas. Each child gets to make a variety of Christmas crafts such as an advent wreath, Christmas ornaments, an advent calendar and some special treats! Children are also able to shop for Christmas presents in "Santa's Workshop" where a variety of low priced gifts (under $1) are available. This year's Christmas Craft Fair will be November 28, 2010.

Jesus' Birthday Party

Jesus is the reason for the season! Christmas is all about celebrating the birth of Jesus. As part of the celebration, the whole church is invited to his birthday party on the Sunday before Christmas. After the last worship service, at 12:15 pm, a hot dog lunch is served with birthday cake (of course!). Also, baby Jesus and his family make an appearance along with another special guest in a red suit! This year's celebration will occur on December 19, 2010.
